Pointing
Before

After

Sometimes mortar joints simply fail. Once joints deteriorate, they allow water in, which freezes, expands, and causes more damage. We can grind out the failed joints and re-point them to restore their original look.
Pointing & Mortar Joint Repair in London, Ontario
Mortar holds your brick or stone wall together. When it deteriorates — whether from age, weather, or water — the strength and appearance of the entire wall is at risk. Re-pointing replaces failing mortar with fresh, properly matched material so your wall stays solid and watertight.
Why Pointing Matters
-
Failed joints let water into the wall, leading to spalling and brick damage.
-
Soft or missing mortar weakens the wall structurally.
-
Old, dark, crumbling joints make a building look tired and neglected.
Our Pointing Process
-
Joint grinding — We carefully grind out failed mortar to a proper depth without damaging the surrounding brick or stone.
-
Mortar matching — We mix mortar to match the existing colour and composition. On older homes, this matters — modern mortar is often too hard for soft historical brick.
-
Tooling the joints — We finish the joints to match the original profile (concave, flush, weathered, etc.), so the repair looks consistent with the rest of the wall.
Whether it's a small section or your entire façade, we'll restore your pointing so the wall reads clean and stays protected.
